About Us
Shepherd, Michigan
Shepherd is located in the middle portion of the lower-peninsula. We are
approximately 6 miles south of Mount Pleasant and Central Michigan University.
Our small community enjoys a simple setting and great neighbors.

History
In
1857 the existing Shepherd area was known as Salt Creek because the town was
built around the around the Salt River flats. In the years to come a gentleman
by the name of I. N. Shepherd built a number of new buildings near the newly
acquired Ann Arbor Rail Lines area. In 1887 an uncontrollable fire destroyed
most of what was known as Salt River. All the businesses and citizens gathered
together to finish developing around the I. N. Shepherd buildings to form the
newly adopted village of Shepherd. In this same year Shepherd became an
Incorporated Village through the Michigan State Government.

Future Goals
Having just completed a major renovation of the
downtown area, we are looking to the future for ideas.
